Gary P. Dougherty, 77, passed away on June 14, 2020 at his La Junta home. He was born on Feb. 16, 1943 in Denver, Colorado to Henry Purvis & Lela Evelyn (Burger) Dougherty. Gary married Diane Fay Kreft on June 14, 1964.
Gary grew up and worked on the family farm in Karval, CO; around the age of 18 Gary moved to Rocky Ford, CO and worked at June Chevrolet and later worked at NIBCO in La Junta. He went out on his own and started his own business doing carpentry, flooring and construction. In 1979 he purchased and ran Valley Pipeline until his passing. Gary was on the Board of Directors for Bents Fort Water for many years; he was a board member and served as President of the North La Junta Sanitation District until his passing. Gary will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Gary is survived by his wife of 56 years, Diane Dougherty of the La Junta home; daughter, Patricia Eileen (Ed) King of La Junta; son, Brett Allen Dougherty of Cheraw, CO; sister, Charlotte (Ken) Lutz of Aguilar, CO; brother, Duane Dougherty; grandchildren, Blaire King of Aurora, CO, Ashley (Robert) Marshall of Pueblo, CO & Nathan (Jessica) King of La Junta; great-grandchildren, Logan Marshall, Cheston King, Cassidy King, Connor Marshall; good friends, Robert & Tracy Stanbro and Dana & Ray Valez; brother-in-law, Gene (Tina) Kreft of Monument, CO; sister-in-law, Joyce (Tom) Becker of Pine, CO; and brother-in-law, Dale (Cindy) Kreft of Rocky Ford. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be held Friday, June 19, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Peacock Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday, June 18, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel. Interment will be at the Rocky Ford Cemetery.
