George B. Nelson, 44, of La Junta, passed away as a result
of an automobile accident on Oct. 21, 2015. He was born on Jan. 12, 1971 in Rocky Ford, Colorado
to Lloyd E. & Devilia "Billie" (Martinez)
Nelson. George married Michelle D. Rogers on July 4, 1997 in New
Hampshire.
George graduated from Rocky
Ford High School
in 1989 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving four years
during Desert Storm & Desert Shield. Following his military service he
worked at Lewis Nut & Bolt, Rubens Auto and the Bent County Correctional
Facility. In 2002 he went to work for the Department of Corrections at the
Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility as a Sergeant and for the last seven
years was on the Emergency Response Team.
George is survived by his wife, Michelle and their
children, Whitney & Brandon of the La Junta family home; his parents,
Devilia "Billie" & Lloyd Nelson of Rocky Ford; his sister,
Ernestine (Leonard) Burlazzi of Galloway, New Jersey. He was preceded in death
by his grandparents, George P. & Lela Nelson and Benjamin & Bibianita
Martinez.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
the George B. Nelson's Children Fund, c/o U.S. Bank direct or through
the funeral home.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 10:30 a.m.
followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m.;
both services at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish in La Junta with
Father Paul Ekeh of St. Peter's Catholic Church of Rocky Ford officiating.
Military honors will follow the Mass at the Rocky Ford Cemetery.
