Gerald Dean Artis

August 24, 1947 — December 26, 2014

Master Sargent, Warrant Officer 2, Gerald “Jerry” Dean Artis, 67, departed this life to join his Savior Jesus Christ on December 26, 2014 at Spanish Peaks Veteran Community Living Center in Walsenburg, CO.  
 
Jerry was born along with his twin brother Gary on August 24, 1947 in Walnut, Illinois to Gerald B. and Ella Catherine (Tuttle) Artis.  Jerry graduated high school in 1966 at Opp, Al. and shortly after joined the U.S. Army. He and Gary served their country as Special Forces officers for 30 years, retiring in 1997. Jerry made his home in the San Luis Valley for the past 17 years and was known in our community as a Godly, kind, and loving, generous, benevolent man. He will be missed by all who knew him. 
 
Jerry’s surviving family includes, Sandra Mason, Michael Ward, Lynn Artis, Jan Artis, Sarah Artis, Lisa Artis and her two children Madison and Tyler. He has innumerable friends who loved him.

A graveside service will be Monday, January 5, 2015 at 12 p.m. at the Fort Logan National Cemetery, staging area A with Special Forces Chaplain Carlos Ruiz and Chaplain Dennis Johnson officiating with Special Forces Honor Guard.
