Geraldine Irene Hansen, 88, passed away at her Cheraw home surrounded by her family on February 4, 2019 and that’s when heaven gained the most admirable, inspirational, faithful, and family-oriented woman. Gerry was born September 20, 1930 in Cheraw, Colorado, the daughter of John and Jemima (Merk) Watters. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cheraw United Methodist Church with Pastor Ryan Trosper officiating. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Fairview Cemetery in La Junta. Visitation will be prior to service at the church from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Levi Hansen, Scott Goheen, Geoff Goheen, Chad Ricken, Todd Redner, and Reuben DeLeon.
Gerry graduated from Cheraw High School in 1948 and married the love of her life, Hans Hansen, on January 16, 1949 at Cheraw United Methodist Church. Gerry was devoted to her family, raising her two sons, Larry and Donny. She was a dedicated housewife that kept an immaculate home, part owner of Hansen Cattle Inc., and an active member of Cheraw United Methodist Church. At the church she was very active in the Sunshine Club and Willing Workers, providing delicious homemade rolls for hundreds of church dinners, funerals, and throughout the community whenever needed. Her hobbies were photography, genealogy, and mostly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and took great pride in her roses. Gerry was a true Denver Bronco and Cheraw Wolverine fan and seldom missed a game.
Gerry is survived by her husband, Hans of Cheraw; sons, Larry (Sandi) of Cheraw and Donny (Diana) of Cheraw; grandchildren, Lynea Hansen of Denver; Betsy (Reuben) De Leon of Arvada; Scott (Desiree) Goheen of La Junta; Geoff (Jean) Goheen of Cheraw; Crystal (Todd) Redner of Cheraw; Levi (Brienne) Hansen of Cheraw; Hanna Hansen of Cheraw; Heidi (Chad) Ricken of La Junta; and sister-in-law, Arlene Watters of Cheraw. She also leaves behind 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Jemima Watters, her daughter, Sheryl Dianne Hansen, her four brothers and two sisters.
