Giles E. Sorley, Sr.

Giles Elrod Sorley, Sr., 80, passed away October 25, 2013 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center. He was born on January 16, 1933 in Monte Video, Minnesota to Guy & Wanda (Elrod) Sorley. He married Bertha Childers on November 15, 1953 in San Francisco, California.

Giles was a Boatswain for 30 years and retired from the United States Navy. He was a wonderful man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Bertha of the La Junta home; children, Skip (Cheryl) Sorley of Scottsdale, AZ and Sue (Greg) Barry of Colorado Springs; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Crouch of La Junta and Josh (Kim) Barry of Colorado Springs; great-grandchildren, Jasmyn & Jason, Jr., Jaiden Crouch and Nevaeh & Kynley Barry. He was preceded in death by his parents 

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home and Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.


A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ft. Lyon National Cemetery with Reverend Ron Skorick of the First Christian Church officiating. Military honors by the United States Navy Honor Team.
