Glen Kreft, 64, of La Junta passed away on January 14, 2017 at Joni Fair Hospice House in Pueblo. Glen was the fifth child born to Paul Kreft and Adeline Mead Kreft on May 20, 1952 in Granite Falls, MN. They moved to Rocky Ford when he was about 3 years old. He graduated in 1970 from Rocky Ford High School and on March 22, 1980, he married Kelly Stangl.
After high school he worked for Gambles in Ft. Collins, CO, McCook, NE and Worland, WY. When Gambles was sold, Glen and Kelly relocated back to La Junta to open their appliance repair business on February 1, 1983. When they started their business, their goal was to treat people the way they wanted to be treated. Glen took pride in serving the Arkansas Valley for almost 34 years. Through these years, he met a lot of people, connected with many he grew up with, and made a lot of friends. In the past few years, a week didn't go by that someone would ask "what are we going to do when you retire". It was with a heavy heart they had to close the shop on December 21 after his 2nd cancer diagnosis. Leaving the valley without a service tech was something he didn't want to do.
Glen's greatest joy was his family. Being self-employed in a mom and pop business, there weren't a lot of family vacations. Those that knew Glen, knew the family's love of Disney. Vacations usually took them to California to Disneyland or Florida to Walt Disney World. They had just returned from Disneyland in early December. These are the memories the family will hold dear, as well as the Saturday's or Sunday's they would spend together in Pueblo or Colorado Springs. It didn't matter where they were, just so they were together. Glen also enjoyed learning about the Valley's history as a pastime through collecting postcards and replicating photos to show the difference between then and now.
Glen is survived by his wife, Kelly of La Junta; son, Brandon (Amber) Kreft of Greeley; daughter, Rachel Skelton of La Junta; two grandsons, Liam and Eli of La Junta; brothers, Gene (Tina) Kreft of Monument, CO and Dale (Cindy) Kreft of Rocky Ford, CO; sisters, Carol Coats of Canon City, CO, Joyce (Tom) Becker of Pine, CO and Diane (Gary) Dougherty of La Junta, CO; lifelong friends, Mike (Lisa) Kruger of Hillsboro, OR, and numerous nephews and nieces.
