Gregory Dean Strain

December 27, 1950 — October 28, 2014

Gregory Dean Strain died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home in Beulah, Colorado at the age of 63.
Greg was born on December 27, 1950 in La Junta, Colorado.  He graduated from La Junta High School in 1969 and University of Southern Colorado in 1974.  After moving to Seattle, Washington, his love for the theater led him to the Empty Space Theater where he worked for several years in live theater production.  Gregory moved to Hollywood, California, and became the artistic director for the popular day-time television program, General Hospital – for which he received several Emmy nominations.  He also co-owned a prop company, furnishing props for stage and film productions.   Gregory returned to Colorado in 1993, and continued his interest in theater and arts by collecting theatrical artifacts.  Greg was the consummate collector with interests ranging from western memorabilia to antique silver. His reading was eclectic and he was conversant on a multitude of subjects.   He was a master craftsman and enjoyed restoring antique furniture.  Greg was inquisitive, inventive, and adventuresome.
He is survived by his sisters Sharon (Jon) Kolomitz, and Susan (Bub) Miller, of La Junta, Colorado, and a  brother, George (Connie) Strain, of Mandeville, Louisiana; two nieces,  seven nephews, and an aunt, Anna Strain Everett of Fort Collins, Colorado, and an uncle, H. W. “Bill” Frye of La Junta, Colorado.  Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Judge George L. and Helen Frye Strain of Beulah, Colorado.   Greg was a loving, compassionate man and shared many years working and caring for his mother and father. He was the quintessential uncle – beloved by his nephews and nieces and their friends.
The family thanks everyone for their heartfelt condolences.  Those wishing to make memorial contributions may make them to the Otero Museum Association, PO Box 223, La Junta, CO 81050.

A memorial service will be held on November 14, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Pastor Gail Allen of the Cowboy Church officiating.
