Gwendolyn "Gwen" J. Hollis, 77, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, with her family at home. Memorial services will be held on Saturday Oct. 23, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Swink United Methodist Church (Fifth and Powers).
Mrs. Hollis was born Jan. 31, 1933 to Kenneth and Nellie Crane in Craig County, Okla. She married Earl E. Hollis Sept. 14, 1950, and followed her husband during his 21-year military career, raising five sons. After returning home to Swink, the couple owned and operated Griffith Cleaners for 16 years, where she was in charge of all of the alterations. Mrs. Hollis partnered with her sister Joyce Gasser of La Junta in running a porcelain doll shop, where she taught classes.
Mrs. Hollis is survived by her husband Earl E. Hollis of Swink, and sons Gary (Linda) Hollis of La Junta, Terry Hollis of Swink, Kenneth Hollis of Scottsdale, Ariz., Robert (Mary) Hollis of Tuttle, Okla., and daughter Debbie Schandelmeier of Swink; sisters Joyce (Clarence) Gasser of La Junta, Tudie (Mac) O'Neal of Rocky Ford, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Nellie Crane, brother Donald Crane, sister Marjorie Crane and son Randy Hollis.
Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
