Harvey E. Adkins

February 28, 1941 — November 10, 2015

Harvey “Sonny” Adkins, 74, of La Junta passed away on
November 10, 2015 at the Sangre De Cristo Hospice House in Pueblo. He was born
on February 28, 1941 in La Junta, Colorado to William H. & Laura (Downey)
Adkins. He married Diane Hindman on August 23, 1976; she preceded him in death
on January 21, 2015.
 
Harvey served his country in the Navy from 1959 thru 1963
during that time he was stationed on the USS Coral Sea. He retired from
Kinder-Morgan Gas CO. He never had any children of his own but was instrumental
in many children’s lives thru The Kids Rodeo Association in La Junta. He was
the announcer for the rodeo for 40 years. He will be truly missed by his family
and friends.
 
He is survived by his sister, Shirley (John) Kincheloe;
brothers, Jim (Linda) Adkins, Russell Adkins; stepson, Jeff E. Martin; step granddaughter,
Shaquanna (David) Vigil; step grandsons, Loren Shoop, Bradley Martin, and
Michael Cook; step great-grandchildren, Shanel Hindman, Azariah & Urijah
Vigil; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Bill & “Babe”, wife, stepdaughter, Robin Hindman, step grandson, Shawn
Robinson.
 
In lieu of flowers and food the family would like you to
make memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association, 2480 West 26th
Avenue, Suite 120-B, Denver, CO, 80211 direct or through the funeral home.
 

 

A graveside service will be Monday, November 16, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Reverend Mike Dziolek of the Fountain Valley Baptist Church in Fountain, Colorado officiating.
