Hastolia Sanchez Magana

January 10, 1941 — March 24, 2016

Hastolia Sanchez Magana, 75, of Los Angeles, California and formerly of La Junta passed away on March 24, 2016 at the home of her granddaughter in La Junta. She was born January 10, 1941 to Louis and LaLa (Mata) Magana in La Junta.

She graduated from La Junta High School class of 1959. She worked for East Otero School District for 32 years, starting as a teacher's assistant in Head Start, but later transferred to East school, where she was a secretary and retired in 2004. Our mother was the kindest, most loving person you could ever meet.  She always had an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on.  She was loved by many and will be missed by many.
Hastolia traveled to Europe, Mexico, Bahamas, and the Caribbean. She enjoyed knitting, reading, cooking and visiting with her grandchildren. She was a member of the St. Anselm Church in Los Angeles, and volunteered for several groups within the church. She was two time survivor of breast cancer.
She was well known in the La Junta community, because every child who went to school in La Junta had to go through the 6th grade center at East School. She knew every child by their name and she always had a kind word or a hug for the kids when they needed it. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
She enjoyed volunteering at the Alcott elementary School in Los Angeles and was active in the Senior Center in Los Angeles.
She is survived by her sisters, Rebecca Magana and Clyda Magana both of Denver; children, Veronica Mae (Raymond) Sanchez-Hackler of Columbus, MS; Gilbert E. “JR” (Melodymae) Sanchez of Lawton, OK; Dave James “DJ” (Evan Chorney) Sanchez of Los Angeles, CA; and Paula Ann Sanchez of La Junta, CO; grandchildren, Risha A. (Miguel Ayala) Sanchez and Mandi L. Sanchez, Marissa N. Hackler, Enrique M. Hackler, Anastasia Sanchez, Maria Baca, Diego Baca, Alexis Baca; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Madison, Scarlet,  and Vivienne Ayala, Emiliano and Josiah Nava; former spouse, Gilbert E. Sanchez, Sr.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis, Sr. & LaLa Magana; children, Louis Magana Jr., Marcel Magana, Jenny Mata and Carolina Lucero.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 2600 Network Blvd., Suite 300, Frisco, TX, 75034 direct or through the funeral home.
