Hazel Hulcher

July 20, 1951 — February 24, 2014

Hazel (Lindsey) Hulcher, 62, passed away unexpectedly on February 24, 2014, in Parker, Colorado. She was born in La Junta, Colorado on July 20, 1951 to Maurice and June (Montgomery) Lindsey. She was the youngest of five children. She attended La Junta schools with the class of 1969.

She married David Lee Passig and traveled with him to naval duty stations including Japan where their daughter, Charlee Frances was born. David died in an auto accident in 1970. Hazel then attended the School of Pueblo Cosmetology and became a licensed cosmetologist. She met Gene Owen while he was stationed at Fort Carson recovering from wounds sustained in an explosion in a Viet Nam War skirmish. They married and their son Michael Gene was born in Colorado Springs. The young family then transferred to several duty stations until Gene’s enlistment was completed. The couple divorced and Hazel supported her children by working at Safeway and then as a banking teller in Oklahoma. She met and married David Jean Hulcher. They made their home in Oklahoma until his death in 1998 due to complications after heart surgery. Hazel returned to La Junta to help care for her father and to be closer to family.

Hazel is survived by her children, Charlee (Dennis) Archuleta and Michael Owen; three step grandchildren, Megan, Jessie and Lucia Archuleta and granddaughter Mckinzi Owen: sisters Peggy (John) Powell and Linda Tompkins: nieces Susan Baker, Jennifer Mitchell, Linda Fox, Bobbie Salas and nephews David Lindsey and Billy Tompkins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Richard and Delbert and two husbands.

Private family services will be held in Oklahoma at a later date with her cousin James Vickroy officiating.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
