Helen M. Bomar

May 25, 1925 — May 30, 2015

Helen Marie Bomar went to eternal paradise on May 30, 2015 while on an extended visit with her daughter in Williamsburg, Kentucky. Helen was born in Rugby, Colorado to Anthony and Minnie Svetkoff on May 25, 1925, 'a coal miners daughter'. She lived most of her youth in Walsenburg, Colorado but upon the death of her father the family moved to Pueblo where she graduated from Pueblo Central in 1943. After World War II she met the love of her life, Robert Bomar, and they wed in Pueblo on Sept. 25, 1945, and remained together for 51 years. Most of her married life was spent in Pueblo where she helped raise her 2 sons and three daughters. Because of her husbands job, they did live in Italy for 3 years and in Thailand for 2 years. On Roberts' retirement they resided for short periods in Monte Vista and Lamar before settling in La Junta in 1993.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and a faithful Christian,

a devout member of the La Junta Church of Christ. She loved teaching children's' Bible classes, reading western novels, and was accomplished at crocheting. All of Helens' children and grandchildren own at least one of her crocheted masterpieces. Helen served for a decade as a volunteer teachers aide at La Junta Primary School and in the AVRMC gift shop. She also was an officer in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Ladies Auxiliary, and La Junta Literary Club. In spite of suffering the physical pains of old age she never complained and always had a smile and kind word for all. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Robert.

Helen is survived by son, David (Phyllis) of La Junta; daughters, Sharon (Rex) Mobley of Williamsburg, KY., Kathleen (Roger) Hamm of Topeka, Kansas, and Julie (John) Jones of Wentzville, MO; and son, Scott (Jan) of Greeley, CO. Also two sisters, Josephine Duvall of Ft. Morgan, CO, and Joan Stimac of Pueblo and 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. This kind and generous lady will be greatly missed.

Memorials in Helen's name can be made to the La Junta Church of Christ or Mountain States Childrens' Home, P.O. Box 1097, Longmont, Colorado direct or through the funeral home.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial service for Helen will be held June 19th, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the La Junta Church of Christ, 10th and Cimarron with Evangelist Terry Smalling and Danny Aragon officiating.
