Hortensia Carrillo passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, in Aurora Colorado. Hortensia was born in La Junta, Colorado, on November 15, 1921 to Severiano and Carolina (Lucero) Magana. She was one of four children, her siblings; Luis Magana, Esperanza Carrillo, Hostolia Magana and Julio Fernandez preceded her in death.
Hortensia worked at the Harvey House as a “Harvey Girl” in her late teens and early twenties. She married Miguel Carrillo on July 21, 1946. Miguel passed away on in 2006. Hortensia was a devoted wife and loving mother to her four children; Roland, Henry, Theresa, and Cynthia (Cindy), who passed on in 2012.
Hortensia was a talented and skilled homemaker, wonderful cook and baker, who loved doing crafts and sewing. She was a long-time member of Our Lady of Guadalupe-St. Patrick’s parish. She enjoyed traveling with her children and participating in activities at the Senior Center. She especially loved her time with her six grandchildren; Lalania Carrillo, Carolina Jaramillo, Jennifer Henkel, Michael Carrillo, Miranda Carrillo and Tyler Carrillo. She also had eight great grandchildren; Israel Jaramillo, Aubriana Henderson, Kaliya Carrillo-Flemons, Lilliana Langford, Preston Henkel, Oscar Carrillo, Nevaeh Paige, and Miles Carrillo.
Hortensia’s strong will to live, unwavering faith in God and the love and prayers of family and friends carried her through to 97 years. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support. A special thank you to the amazing staff at St. Andrew's Village and the hospice team.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Henry Wertin officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home. A reception will follow in the parish hall following the interment at Calvary Cemetery.
