Howard V. Holter

Howard V. Holter, 82, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011 at his Cheraw home. He was born on September 23, 1928, in Galatea, Colorado to John Henry & Alice Louise (Stoltz) Holter. He married Lois Jean Henney on June 2, 1951 in Eads, Colorado.
Howard graduated from Kit Carson High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 stationed at Fort Carson, CO he then worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 37 years. He was a member of the First Church of God in Rocky Ford for over 50 years; he served as church treasurer for many years. Howard enjoyed music very much. He enjoyed singing and playing his guitar providing special music not only at church but also for several community organizations.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lois Holter, of Cheraw; son, John Holter of Montrose, CO; daughters, Janet Schiro of La Junta and Julie Holter of Pueblo; grandchildren, Megan Schiro and Cameron Schiro of La Junta, & Amanda Holter of Denver; sister, Ethel Oquist of La Junta; brothers, George Holter of Fort Collins, Lee Holter of Fort Collins and John Holter of Colorado Springs and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Henry Holter and a sister, Faye Patterson.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta with Reverend Dan Griffith of the First Church of God, Pueblo, CO. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. at Eads Cemetery.
Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
