James Hicken Nelson

James Hicken Nelson, 73, of La Junta, passed away on Sept. 15, 2014 the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center. He was born on April 28, 1941 in Edmonton Alberta, Canada to Rehnon D. & Ora (Hicken) Nelson. James married Sheri Lee Reidhead on September 5, 1964.


James retired from the Air Force after 23 years on service. He loved camping and the outdoors. He worked for Neoplan for 6 years.


James is survived by his wife, Sheri of the La Junta home; children, Stephanie (Mounir) Sekkat, Wendy (John) Adams, and Michelle Nelson; grandchildren, Nelson Craig Admas, Hunter Michael Adams, Chloe Mylieka Adams, Sami James Sekkat, Ali (Julia) Sekket, and Medhi Sekkat; great-grandchild, Mason Sekkat; sister, Jolayne Larson of Bountiful, Utah and her children, Bowen & Kim. He was preceded in death by his parents.


Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.


Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ – Latter Day Saints in La Junta. Interment will follow at the Ft. Lyon National Cemetery with Military Honors at 1:00 p.m.
