Janet Agnes (Bolles) Millard McNeff was born on April 25, 1926 in Pueblo, CO to Ralph Benjamin and Linnie Etta (Leckrone) Bolles. She passed away on March 27, 2021 at the Crowley County Nursing Center in Ordway, at the age of 94.
Jan, as she was known to everyone who knew her, lived her early years on a farm west of Manzanola. She moved to La Junta at the beginning of her junior year of high school. Following graduation she enrolled in the School of Nursing at the University of Colorado, Boulder. During her third year she was sidetracked by a good looking sailor who was home from the war, Larry Millard. They married and settled here in La Junta where they raised five children. During this period of her life she took the LPN exam and received her nursing license. In the Late 1960's she went to work at Loma Vista Medical Center as Dr. Stutzman's office nurse; a role she filled for many years. After the death of her husband in 1976, she returned to school and finally earned her RN.
She married Dexter McNeff in 1983 and they blended their two families for a total of eight adult children. Together they shared a wonderful life; building their home in North La Junta for family and friends to gather, traveling in their fifth wheel to Arizona and California in the winters, going fishing in the mountains during the summers. They were members of the Antique Car Club and the La Junta Methodist Church. Jan was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary Craft Group, a volunteer at Crossroads Marketplace, PEO and Toastmasters. She lived a full life; even during her stays at two nursing homes.
She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Lawrence Millard and Dexter McNeff; son, Greg Millard and brothers, John and Robert Bolles.
Jan is survived by her children, Susie (Peter) Mathewson and Jay Millard all of La Junta; John (Kareen) Millard of Boulder, CO; and Becky (Perry) Branch of Erie, CO; her children by marriage, Randy (Shirley) McNeff of Longmont, CO; Lynn McNeff of La Junta; and Tina Folmer of Cheraw; sister, Mary Jane (Bolles) Reed of La Junta; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service to honor the lives of Jan and Dex will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of La Junta with Pastor Lynne Tabb officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in La Junta.
