Janice R. Jones

Janice Rhea Jones, 79, of La Junta passed away September 10, 2015 surrounded by her family. Janice was born in La Junta on July 17, 1936 to Lloyd and Evelyn (Bollinger) Cuckow. She was the oldest of three children. Janice was a dedicated mother to her four daughters. She put herself through nursing school and was a registered nurse with the Fort Lyon VA for nearly 30 years. She was a master of many skills including sewing, cooking, baking, and crafting. Janice was actively involved in Does as their president, and participated in local VFW activities as a volunteer.


Janice is survived by her four children, Carlene (Beaman Dowell) McDonald of Las Animas, Connie (Jack) Clifton of La Junta, Sonja (Jim) Simpkins of Roselle, Illinois, Linda (Wes) Odneal of Palisade, and her brother Tom (Mary) Cuckow of Swink. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren including Wyatt (Christine) Dowell, Mirranda Dowell, Jeffery Dowell, Kristin (Travis) Carpenter, Alex Giusti, Whitney Giusti, Hannah (Mack) Newman, Holly Odneal, Joey Odneal and many great grandchildren as well as her nieces and nephews. Janice is also survived by her very special friends Max, Judy, and Karen.


Janice is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bob Cuckow, and granddaughter Jennifer Dowell Stwalley.


Those wishing to do so may make memorial donations to the La Junta Senior Center or to a Veterans charity of choice derect or through the funeral home.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, September 15 at 11:00 a.m.at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Reverend DeEtta Goettel of the La Junta United Methodist Church officiating.
