Jerry Dale Church, 77, of Fowler, Colorado passed away, Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at his Fowler home. He was born Saturday, August 17, 1946, in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Lenn & Vivian E. (Brashear) Church.
He graduated from Moore High School in 1964. That summer, he enlisted in the US Navy and served until he was honorably discharged in 1970. Three and one-half of his service years were spent aboard the USS Ramsey, during the Vietnam War. Jerry was very proud to have served his country during such a difficult time. Decades later, whenever the traveling wall of the Vietnam Memorial was being displayed in nearby communities, he would make the drive to honor his fellow service members who paid the ultimate price.
Upon separating from military service, he settled into home life, preparing for his career. Working and attending school at the same time, he eventually received a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1980. During this time, he entered the healthcare field of audiology, where he was highly skilled in testing, fitting, and repairing hearing aids. He would continue his audiological work for the next forty-five years.
During those years, Jerry became interested in, and participated in, many forms of historical reenactments, including Civil War, Gunfighter, and Pioneer/Settler. He also took to the stage of the local theater and acted in several performances.
Jerry married Cynthia Adams in 2009, and they made their home in Yukon, Oklahoma, until relocating to southeastern Colorado in 2018 to enjoy their retirement years together. He found that small-town life suited him, and he enjoyed the fellowship of his church, parades down Main Street, community gatherings in shady parks, and community Thanksgiving services, as well as keeping his garden.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Cynthia Church, of the home in Fowler, CO; sons, Erick (Tori) Church of Broken Arrow, OK; Jeff Koontz of Yukon, OK; Sam (Jessica) Adams of Westcliffe, CO; and daughters, Tammi Church Goforth of Oklahoma City, OK; Kandi (Phillip) Conway of Yukon, OK; Amanda (Sid) Smith of Nocona, TX; Melody (Greg) Parr of Nocona, TX; Sarah (Jon) Baillio of Melbourne, FL; Sally (Art) Villasenor of Mandeville, LA. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Jerry is also survived by brothers, Ron (Lori) Church of McKees Rock, PA; Rick (Lana) Church of Oklahoma City, OK; Gene (Stella) Church of Menifee, CA, and brother-in-law, Wayne (Ann) Lusk, Oklahoma City, OK.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lenn R Church and Vivian Church Stewart; sisters, Donna Lusk, and Maggie Kari; nephew, Joel Dale Church II; niece, Lorie Nugent; and granddaughter, Bella Lyn Church.
