Joann R. Wolfenbarger

Joann R. Wolfenbarger, 85, of La Junta passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center. She was born September 7, 1926 to Bill & Fannie (Huckaby) McClary of Sentinel, Oklahoma. She married Dean Wolfenbarger; who preceded her in death.
She graduated High School class of 1944 in Sentinel, OK. She attended Oklahoma Christian OCC College where she got her Associate Teaching Degree and in 1948 she attended Abilene Christian College where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching. She was a secretary in Bethany, OK. In 1956 she moved to La Junta where she was a Special Ed teacher for the junior high, and she also taught 3rd grade; retiring in 1977. She then worked as a secretary for a local lawyer and did substitute teaching during this time. Joann was a good friend, worker, Christian and mother.  

She is survived by her son, Gary Wolfenbarger of Oklahoma City, OK; son-in-law, Lee Scofield of Colorado City, CO; grandson, Casey Scofield of Deerborn, MI; daughter-in-laws, Nancy Grundy of Texas; Jolene Wolfenbarger of Sentinel, OK; granddaughters, Tara Smith of Sentinel, OK; Keri Chism of Piedmont, OK; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Hunter, Steele Lane, Harlie, Stone, Cooper, Brisco, Maddie, and Lilly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Carol Scofield, and her son, Dan Wolfenbarger.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the La Junta Church of Christ  with Evangelist Terry Smalling officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
