Joe Luciano Pequete, 95, of Rocky Ford died January 4, 2019 in La Junta, Colorado. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday and the Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rocky Ford. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford.
He was born on June 5, 1923 in La Junta, Colorado to Andres and Matilde (Whatley) Pequete.
Joe was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, and also Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Catholic Church. He enjoyed farming, being a devoted husband and father, helping out in the community, and will always be remembered for his cheerful singing. He was a member of the United States Army, serving from 1941-1945. He was a recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, which was issued by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The medal was intended to recognize those military members who had performed military duty in the European Theater during the years of the Second World War.
He is survived by his son, Jack (Inez) Pequete, Rocky Ford; sister, Mary A. Pequete of La Junta; granddaughter, Brooke (Troy) Elenga of Pueblo West; great-granddaughter, Allison Roan and great-grandson, Ryker Elenga. He is also survived by his nephew, Carl (Cindy) Goff; niece, Joyceann Coltellaro, Glenda (Gordan) Golman, Nancy (George) Burton, and several great-nieces and nephews, all in Texas. He is also survived by Jack's step-son, Phillip Navarro, whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Joey Pequete, sister, Rose Goff, and wife, Esperanza Pequete.
