John Douglas Bellar boarded his last train for his final ride on this earth. He joined his Heavenly Father on February 7, 2018. He was born on October 8, 1917 in Club Springs, Tennessee to Wayman and Carrie Mae (Ferrell) Bellar. He married Evelyn F. Coslett on June 18, 1938 in Colorado Springs; she preceded him in death on June 24, 2006. They were married for 63 years.
Doug came to Colorado in 1926 in a Model T. He graduated from La Junta High School in 1936. He started working on the Santa Fe railroad in 1942 as a fireman and retired as an engineer 38 years later. Doug was a long time member of the First Christian Church as well.
He is survived by his daughters, Carole Kennedy and Judy (Rick) Warren; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great, great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife, brothers, Bill and Gerald, sister, Carolyn Horner, daughter Sally, his son-in-law Calvin, and a great-grandson and great-granddaughter.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fairview Cemetery in La Junta. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
