John E. Davidson

John E. Davidson, 73, was taken away suddenly on Feb. 16, 2015 at his home in Las Animas. He was born on June 5, 1941 to Neil & Dorothy (Crays) Davidson in Las Animas, Colorado. John married Sherry Lyons on Nov. 12, 1981.


John graduated from Las Animas High School where he played with the two time state basketball championship team. He graduated from Iowa State University, attending there on a full ride basketball scholarship. Following college John spent the remainder of his life on the family ranch. He spent his entire life on the family ranch. Ranching and grandkids, kids in general, were his life.


He recently became a board member of the Las Animas-Bent County Community Center (old high school) and was a well respected member of the community. John was a husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend to everyone.


John is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sherry of the family home; children, Carrie (Randy) Babb of Colorado Springs, Tonya (Boyd) Bender of Las Animas, and Brad Davidson; brother, Robert (Brenda) Davidson of Las Animas; grandchildren, Luke (Aimee) Babb of Kansas City, MO, Wyatt (Kaelina) Babb of Colorado Springs, Lindsey Babb of Colorado Springs, Hailey Davidson, and Broc & Hannah Bender of the family ranch in Las Animas. And a soon to be great-grandson, Raylan Jackson Babb. He was preceded in death by his parents, Neil & Dorothy Davidson and his in-laws, Bob & Maxine Lyons.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at the Las Animas-Bent County Community Center with Pastor Rod Coulter of the Seed & Supply Church officiating.
