John Hiram Deatherage, 91, passed away on December 12, 2018 at his La Junta home. He was born on August 23, 1927 in Des Moines, New Mexico to Jasper Marion & Beulah (Nichols) Deatherage.
He is survived by his wife, Dorinda of the La Junta home; daughter, Rebecca Mata of Cheraw; son, Marc (Rose) Mitchell of La Junta; grandchildren, Aaron Mata of Cheraw; Wendy Mata of La Junta; Amy Mata of Apache Junction, AZ; Nickolas Mata of Cheraw; Kyla Mitchell of La Junta; Jessica Figueroa of La Junta; Christopher Figueroa of Pueblo and Kaylan Goodwin of Denver, CO; numerous great-grandchildren and his brother, Donnie Deatherage in Bushnell, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Geraldine on November 18, 1997 and his siblings, Billy Deatherage, Rosalie Matthews and Irene Bamber.
Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Valley View Cemetery in Rocky Ford with Kurt England of the Valley Community Church officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 17, 2018 at Peacock Memorial Chapel from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
