John Jesus Velez

John Jesus Velez, 85 passed away on March 23, 2018 at his La Junta home. He was born on February 4, 1933 in Nochistlan Zacatecas Mexico to Silvano Velez and Romana (Sandoval) Velez.

He was a member of Iglesia Apostolica de la fe en Cristo Jesus in Rocky Ford.
John was strong in his Christian faith and loved spending countless hours reading the bible. He stressed the importance of salvation to everyone he met. Throughout his life he gave to others in need without hesitation.
He was a farm worker and was employed at Crystal Sugar and worked many years for Hirakata Farms. He leaves a legacy of a strong work ethic.

He re-married and is survived by wife Pauline Cordova Velez of La Junta; sons, Ernest (Jeannine Barton) Velez of La Junta; Tom (Stephanie) Velez of Strasburg; Ray (Dana) Velez of La Junta; Jesse (Natalie) Velez of Pueblo; David (Cheryl) Rivera of Colorado Springs and Johnny Rivera of Trinidad; brothers, Raphael, Jose and sister Maria. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his first wife Geronima Flores Velez; daughters, Yolanda Velez and Maria Esperanza Velez; brother, Rosalio Velez, sisters, Maria Engracia, Silvestra, Petra, Romana.

Along with his faith, John leaves his legacy of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His greatest concern was that they be baptized and share in his faith and relationship with God. He has gone on to his eternal life and will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in La Junta. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 28, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
