Johnny Fernandez

July 12, 1949 — December 1, 2017

Johnny Fernandez, 68, of La Junta passed away on December 1, 2017 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta. He married Amelia Saracho on November 24, 1973 in La Junta.

Johnny was a husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, friend, and a very hard worker. He will be missed dearly. Johnny was very proud to have served in the United States Army. He would talk about his experiences and it was so interesting to hear. Johnny had a wide variety of hobbies which included coin and can collecting. He also liked listening to oldies, playing the guitar and playing his favorite song, “Light My Fire”.

Johnny always wanted to see the sharks at the aquarium. He liked passing the time by playing cards in the kitchen to keep his wife company while she cooked. Another favorite past time of Johnny’s was watching tv, especially Family Feud, Maury, Jerry Springer, and The Price is Right. He was a funny outgoing person but serious at times as well. He would always come out with some funny jokes. Johnny will be missed dearly but will never be forgotten.

He is survived by his wife, Amelia of the La Junta home; children, Johnny Fernandez, Jr. and Sonia Fernandez both of La Junta; three grandchildren; siblings, Esther Fernandez of La Junta; Sylvia Carrillo of Albuquerque, NM; Jesse Carrillo of La Junta; Lupia Barraza of Albuquerque, NM; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Thomas Hernandez; sister, Crossie Aguilera; step-father, Lupe Carrillo.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. followed by Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Henry Wertin officiating.
