Jon McClure, 81, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away at his home on January 23, 2021. Jon was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Born Sept. 16, 1939 in Rocky Ford, Colorado to Robert (Bob) McClure and Lucille (Linn) McClure, Jon was raised in Rocky Ford and attended Colorado A & M. In 1959, he met Phyllis Sciumbato, his wife of 60 years. Living in La Junta, Colorado, they raised their four children Michelle (Shelly), Lisa, Craig, and Shari. Jon had a 30-year career at NIBCO, which started in La Junta in 1962. In 1986, Jon relocated with NIBCO to McAllen, Texas where he traveled daily to Reynosa, Mexico for work. In 1992, he retired from NIBCO and spent three months in Hawaii assisting in the completion of his brother’s home. After Hawaii, Jon and his wife moved to Phoenix, Arizona to be closer to family. In Phoenix, he returned to his career working at Morris Industries until 2003.
Jon was a lifetime learner who loved science, technology, and history -- including his Donner family heritage. In his free time, he enjoyed doing home projects and teaching these skills to his children. One of Jon’s greatest joys was building the family cabin in the mountains of Colorado with his children and father-in-law. The cabin became the backdrop for an abundance of fond memories with family and friends for more than 20 years. In his retirement, he put his “handy-man” skills to use helping in his daughter and son-in-law’s Real Estate business for several years.
More than anything, Jon loved spending time with his family and sharing his passions and sense of humor with them. He was an avid card player throughout his life and enjoyed teaching card games to his children and grandchildren. He spent many evenings playing cribbage, Texas Hold ‘Em, and Backgammon with family, rarely losing a game. He also spent time traveling around the country attending family gatherings, enjoying local outings with his brother- and sister-in-law, Warren and Charlene Sciumbato, and cheering on his grandchildren at their many activities. He was remarkably proud of his family and sought every opportunity to share their most recent accomplishments.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Michelle Seberson of Mesa, AZ, Lisa Rounds (Del) of Phoenix, AZ, Craig McClure (Shara) of Dallas, TX, and Shari McClure (BJ Moore) of Bellevue, WA; five grandchildren, Lindsay Seberson, Alexis (Ricky) Wahl, Melinda (Ryan) Haughey, Michael (Katie) McClure, Dominike (Jake Holmes) Rounds; three great-grandchildren, Cadence Seberson, Serenity, and Elliott Haughey; and his brother Lerre McClure of Kailua-Kona, HI. He is preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Belier, father, Robert McClure, grandson, Jeremy Seberson, and his beloved cat, Tut.
