Jose Rizo, 91, passed away on December 10, 2022 at his La Junta home. He was born on April 5, 1931 in Jalisco, Mexico to Salvador & Epiffana (Espinoza) Rizo. He married Sadie Martinez on Nov. 1, 1954 in La Junta; she preceded him in death on May 19, 2012.
Jose became a U.S. Citizen on June 14, 1956. He worked at Majestic from 1964-1967. He was then a contractor for Lee Reed from 1968-1971, then went on to be a carpenter for Otero Junior College from 1971-1986 where he then retired from. He loved spending time with his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his sons, Salvador Rizo of Denver; Raymond Rizo of Denver; granddaughter, Tiffany (Antonio) Morales of La Junta; great-grandchildren, Edit Elizabeth Morales & Eban Antonio Morales; siblings, Carmen Rizo Espinzona and Isabell Rizo DeAnda both of Jalisco, Mexico; numerous nieces, nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brother and three sisters.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Peacock Memorial Chapel from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Thursday, December 15, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Joseph Matitu officiating. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in La Junta.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Arkansas Valley Hospice.
