Joy R. Vining

Joy R. Vining passed away on February 13, 2013 at 7:00 pm. She was born in Geneva, Illinois, on July 12, 1927, to Perry and Myrtle Robinson.

Joy married Carl M. Vining, Jr. on April 30, 1948, in the College Church of Christ in Wheaton, Illinois. Joy and Carl moved to Pueblo, Colorado in 1957. Joy became a member of the Colorado Mountain Club and climbed 30 of the 54 14,000 foot peaks with her husband and sons. She and her husband loved to square dance and were members of the Prairie Dusters square dancing club. She had a vibrant energy and passion for genealogy, watercolor painting, and metalwork with silver, refinishing furniture and down hill skiing.

Joy was in the first class to graduate from Southern Colorado State College, now CSU Pueblo, graduating with the honor of Magna Cum Laude. She taught high school English at East High School and then Central High School from which she retired in 1987. Joy, along with her husband, had an insatiable love for travel. Making multiple trips to Europe, Alaska, and Hawaii, along with Australia, Mexico, Central and South America as well as many cruises all over the world and various train trips across Canada and North America.

Joy is survived by two sons, Steve (Deb) and Bruce (Penny), four grandchildren, Brian (Katie), Meghan (Greg), Mallory and Morgan and one great grandchild Lorelei, her brother Lloyd (Pat) Robinson and nieces Dana and Deanna (Mark) and their children, all of whom loved her dearly and will miss her wisdom, humor, candid wit and guidance in the years to come. Her husband Carl, grandson, Chris, brother, Bud and her parents, preceded her in death. Private family memorial service will be held at the Swallows Cemetery.
