Juan D. Romero

May 13, 1933 — February 11, 2014

Juan D. Romero, 80, passed away on February 11, 2014 at his Rocky Ford home. He was born on May 13, 1933 in Roy, New Mexico to Augustine & Apolonita (Arguello) Romero. He married Rosemary Gonzales in 1957 at the St. Peters Catholic Church in Rocky Ford.


Juan served in the United States Army. He also retired from the 947th Medical Unit in the National Guard. He retired from the Ft. Lyon VA Hospital as an Occupational Therapist after 34 years. Juan loved traveling and helping others. He enjoyed spending time and visiting with family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.


He is survived by his ex-wife, Rosemary Gonzales; children, Ted (Terri) Romero, Juan D. (Sue) Romero, Jr., Michael (Yvonne) Romero, Debbie Romero, Tracy Romero, and Cathy (Robert) Apodaca; brothers, Victor (Maggie) Romero, George (Gloria) Romero, Sonny (Louise) Romero, Rocky Romero; sisters, Helen Abrams, Annie (Jim) Oldfield, Vicky Romero, and Patsy Calderon; 15 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Louise Lucero and Mary Romero and brother, Rudy Romero.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home and Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.


A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Pastor Virgil Ortega officiating of the Full Gospel Church in Rocky Ford.
