Katherine Renea Wheeler Yocam, 43, passed away on April 8, 2017, at home, on the ranch, in Kim, Colorado, after many months of illness. She was born on May 31, 1973, at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas to Edwin Reginald & Ilona Marie (Dygert) Wheeler.

Katherine was baptized by great-great cousin, Rev. Allie Davenport at First United Methodist Church in Paris Texas, August 19, 1973. She and her family lived in several locations in the Dallas, Texas, area. She graduated high school from Alexander Academy, Richardson, Texas as a member of National Honor Society. In high school, she pursued her artistic and musical (flute) interests. She attended South West Texas University, San Marcus, Texas. She moved to Raton, NM in 2001. She graduated with a BS in Elementary and Special Education, Summa Cum Laude, from Highlands University, Las Vegas, New Mexico, while working and caring for two small children and living in Raton. Katherine married the love of her life, Gene David Yocam on May 16, 2004. She was a ranch wife and loved to work with her husband and care for the animals. Her interests were quilting, reading and cake decorating for her family. Her goal as a mother was to instill the love and obedience to God’s word in her three children. Her newest love was her two precious grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Gene David Yocam; sons, Lance Reginald Yocam & Rex Benjamin Yocam of the home in Kim, CO, daughter, Amanda Marie (Brandon Lee) Hare, and grandchildren, Austin Grace Hare and Brantley David Hare, all of Kim, CO; parents, Edwin Reginald & Ilona Marie Wheeler of Vega, TX; brother, Marshall Clayton “Clay” (Teresa Lynn) Wheeler, nieces, Shelby Lynn Wheeler & Mickala Caitlyn Wheeler all of Orono, ME; niece, Lauren Bronwyn Wheeler of Albuquerque, NM; in-laws, Gary (Jennie) Yocam and Dale (Samantha) Yocam of Kim. Other survivors include numerous family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Amanda Geraldine Pendley Dygert, maternal grandfather, Kenneth Elston Dygert; paternal grandmother, Treasa Mollie Gallimore Wheeler, paternal grandfather, Marshall Rex Wheeler; niece, Carlye Blake Yocam and uncle, Randal Elston Dygert.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 14, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Kim Gymnasium with Pastor Vondell Koontz of Trinidad, Colorado and Pastor Justin Brown of the Kim Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Kim Cemetery.
