Kenneth R. Payne

Kenneth R. Payne, 68, entered his eternal home on July 4, 2014 at his Las Animas home. He was born on July 20, 1945 in Tulare, California to Charles & Nellie (Giles) Payne.


Kenneth grew up in California and Oklahoma. He graduated from Tyrone High School in Tyrone, Oklahoma, in 1963. He served in the United States Air Force and served some of that time in Thailand. After his time in the service he worked for Continental Trailways Bus Company for several years. His most recent employment was with Fort Lyon Veterans’ Hospital from which he retired on disability. His retirement years were spent in Las Animas. He loved to read, play golf, and watch the Denver Broncos and other football games, and watching old movies.


He is survived by his brothers, Charles (Sonja) Payne of Oklahoma and Preston (Pat) Payne of Kansas, nieces and nephews including Heather Payne and Robin Puleio and sister-in-law, Diane Payne. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and brothers, Byron and Gary.


Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.



Graveside services with military honors will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ft. Lyon National Cemetery.
