Leonard Paul Yergert, 71, passed away on April 7, 2022, at his La Junta home. He was born on October 20, 1950, to Paul & Lydia (Miller) Yergert.
He attended school in La Junta graduating with the class of 1968. He attended OJC and UNC Greeley. He worked for his oldest brother, Clarence on the farm in Fort Bent during the summer farming. He loved picking melons and tomatoes, not really! He didn’t pick any tomatoes. Later he worked for Leonard Hurrelbrink and Don Shauer construction companies as a carpenter. He briefly worked in California as a carpenter also, he hated the traffic and came home after a couple of years. He was a masterful carpenter and his work can be seen in many newly built home and remodels throughout the valley. His skills as a carpenter and people-person were unmatched.
Leonard knew someone everywhere he went. He had that big open-handed wave, flashing at everyone he passed driving around town. He would and could talk to anyone at any time, he loved people and La Junta. He retired in September of 2021 due to health concerns, he missed his work so much.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie (Weaver) Yergert of the La Junta home; siblings, Bob (Dixie) Yergert of Denver; Ronnie Yergert of Pueblo West and Nancy (Don) Brul of Rio Ranch, NM; sister-in-law, Jane Yergert of La Junta; aunt, Lucille Yergert; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends; stepchildren; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and Harper the family dog whom he could lay with on the floor for hours and pet, and neither one got tired of it. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Clarence Yergert and sister-in-law, Betty Yergert; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins from both the Yergerts and Miller families.
