Lewis Clark LeRoy Davis Jr., 91, of La Junta passed peacefully on to be with his beloved wife, Rosemary March 5, 2017 at the Pioneer Nursing Care Center in Rocky Ford. He was born on September 21, 1925 in Boulder, Colorado to Lewis C. L. and Minnie (Potter) Davis.
LeRoy was the seventh child of eight siblings. He was the first boy and the last surviving child of the Davis Family. LeRoy served in the US Navy at the end of WWII. Returning home to Boulder, Colorado in 1946, he soon met his future bride who was attending the University of Colorado, Boulder. They were then married in 1948. LeRoy worked for Rosemary’s father, Ray Philpy, on the family ranch near Arlington, Colorado. Later, LeRoy found work at the Harvard Solar Observatory located in the Sacramento Mountains of New Mexico where he and Rosemary spent a couple of years living at 9,200 ft. elevation. They then moved to Cotopaxi, Colorado. While living in Cotopaxi, daughters Jane and Nancy were born. LeRoy had a 15 year career in farm equipment sales for New Holland then moved to the lower Arkansas Valley in 1973 to be near Rosemary’s mother. LeRoy started Davis Distributing, a business for hydraulic jack repair, replacement brake shoes and rotor turning. LeRoy loved traveling the 50 states with Rosemary in their RV, spending time with family and building and flying radio control airplanes.
He is survived by his daughters, Jane (George) Stampados and Nancy (Phil) Olson, three granddaughters, Chris (Kyle) McCarthy, Sarah Olson and Cassie Stampados. LeRoy was so proud of his great-granddaughters, Layla, Matilda, Julianne and Susan. LeRoy was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Rosemary and a grandson, Nathan Olson.
Graveside inurnment will be Friday, March 17, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Ft. Lyon National Cemetery with military honors by the Rocky Ford Rifle Team, American Legion Post #8. A memorial service will be Saturday, March 18, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Ron Skorick of the First Christian Church officiating.
