Longtime La Junta resident Lillian Sayklay Malouff died May 1, 2022, at 96 years of age. She was a resident of Evergreen Gardens at that time. She was originally from El Paso, Texas, before moving to La Junta in 1946.
Mrs. Malouff was preceded in death by her husband Phillip Malouff Sr., a well-known businessman in La Junta, and one son Richard A. Malouff. She is survived by Francis J. Malouff and Virginia Frye Malouff of Chantilly VA; Phillip F. Malouff, Jr. and Sandra Basset Malouff of La Junta; Susan Malouff Wheeler and Steven Wheeler of Castle Rock; and Thomas S. Malouff of Lakewood; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She worked with her husband Phil at Malouff Grocery for many years. Later she became a bailiff in the county courts system.
She was active in her church St. Patrick’s/Our Lady of Guadalupe. She served as a lay minister. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of American, bell choir and church circles. She supported her five children through their youthful activities, including being a Koshare Mom for four sons. She was a gifted pianist and organist. She won dozens of prizes for flower arrangements at local fairs. She had many hobbies, including cataloging mountain flora, genealogy, calligraphy and bridge. She spoke three languages.
Those wishing to make memorial donations may do so to Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick parish in La Junta, or the charity of their choice.
