Loyd Leland Goodrich

September 12, 1934 — February 20, 2018

Loyd Leland Goodrich, 83, departed this life on February 20, 2018 at the Southeast Colorado Hospital in Springfield, CO. He was born on September 12, 1934 to Loyd and Lenora (Norris) Goodrich in Liberal, KS. Leland graduated from Kim High School in 1952 then attended TSJC to study radio and television. He served in the United States Army from December 1954-October 1956. Leland married Joanne Mayo on October 5, 1957.

Leland started custom harvesting in 1958 with the purchase of a 55 John Deere combine. When harvest was over, early jobs included working at the Sugar Beet Factory in Swink, and working with Uncle Ike Goodrich running a pin setter & painting pins at the two bowling alleys in Colorado Springs, but he traveled home every weekend to work the farm. According to Joanne, they lived in a tiny apartment for a while then lived in their trailer house that didn’t have an ounce of insulation.

In 1958, they returned to Kim, CO and bought the current home place formerly owned by Joanne’s grandfather, George Mayo. Leland continued custom harvesting for 42 years; finally following through on his promise to Joanne; “we’ll quit harvesting after the combine is paid off”. As most of you know, he acquired several more combines in the duration of harvest. Leland & Joanne built their ranching business during the non-farming months. After spending 17 years in a 10 x 45 foot trailer house & having 5 kids, Leland followed through on his promise to build Joanne a house. They moved into their new home in 1975 and still live there today. The farm and ranch is still going strong today.

Leland was active in the community, as a member of the Kim School Board, Kim Grazing Association, Federal Land Bank, and Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne; daughters, Dianne (Cody) Clark of Karval; Denise Goodrich of Pritchett; Lea (Shawn) McAvoy of Aurora; and Lynda (Karl Walk) Goodrich of Leoti, KS; sister, Donna (Danny) Johnson of La Junta; brother, Tommy (Theresa) Goodrich of Kim; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Jamie (Ryan) & Emma Clark of Karval; Amanda (Eric Stum) Clark, Kyler, Konner & Brynlee Stum of Elizabeth; Ashley (Shaun) Leonard, Wyatt & Paisley of Canyon TX; Chris (Allison) Day of Pueblo; Beth Morlan of Lamar; Casey (Kree Gates) Day, Kinsley Day of Leoti, KS and Clayton (Reagan Higgins) Morlan of Pritchett. He was preceded in death by his son, Terry Mark Goodrich; parents, Loyd & Lenora Goodrich; brother, Robert L. Goodrich and niece, Debbie Goodrich.
