Lucy Lorenzo Rizzuto joined her Heavenly family on May 10, 2018. After a fall on January 10, 2018, broke her leg and the good Lord decided to bring her home to rest.
Lucy was born on January 1, 1922 in La Junta, Colorado to Salvatore “Semo” Lorenzo and Concetta LaViana Lorenzo both of Potenza, Italy. She attended La Junta Schools and graduated from LJHS in 1941. Lucy lived and worked in La Junta her entire life retiring when she was 80 years young.
She worked at Klein’s Grocery, Jeffers Drug Store, The Sylwood Dress Shop, Gibson’s Discount Center, George’s Jeweler’s, and during the war years for the Ration Board with her sister, Nellie. She volunteered at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in the gift shop.
She was Catholic with a strong faith and was most proud of her work with the Catholic Daughters of America. She was a member of Court Little Flower, the oldest court of CDA in the state of Colorado from May, 1942 until her death and was elected Grand Regent three years in succession, the highest office a member can hold. She also volunteered in the Parish Book Store on Sundays following mass.
She married Lyle Byron Rizzuto in La Junta, Colorado, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church when it was located at 2nd and Lincoln. They had two children, Timothy Lyle Rizzuto and Donald Joseph Rizzuto and she was proud of both of them for their many accomplishments.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lyle of 51 years, her sisters, Josie (Louie) Koller, Nellie (Lloyd) Morgan and Mary (Steve) Koller, and her brothers, Rocco (Grace) Lorenzo and Jerry (Janet) Lorenzo, her brother-in-law, Donald Rizzuto, and brother-in-law, Clifford (Patricia) Rizzuto.
She leaves behind a loving family who will greatly miss her; son Tim of Denver, Colorado, son Don and his wife, Jeannie of La Junta, Colorado, grandson, Anthony Rizzuto of Denver, Colorado, granddaughter, Angela Rizzuto and her husband, Dustin Schramm of Windsor, Colorado, and two great-granddaughters, Olivia Schramm and Amelia Schramm of Windsor, Colorado, nieces Margie (Jim) McKnight and her family of La Junta and Nancy (Paul) Smith and her family of Albuquerque, New Mexico, brother-in-law, Louie Koller of Summerfield, Florida, and many nieces and nephews who lovingly called her Auntie.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. both services at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Henry Wertin officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow services at the Calvary Cemetery in La Junta.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Arkansas Valley Hospice, PO Box 408, La Junta, CO, 81050 direct or through the funeral home.
