Luther Lee Britton

Luther Britton, 78, passed away on May 27, 2015 at his La Junta home. He was born on Oct 16, 1936 in Trinidad, Colorado to Albert and Clara (Rawlings) Britton.



 After serving in the United States Army, Luther returned to La Junta to marry the girl next door. Luther and Mabel Morrow were married on June 8, 1957.



Luther worked for the City of La Junta retiring in 2001. In his earlier years, Luther volunteered as a posse member for the Otero County Sheriff’s department.  He enjoyed the outdoors and riding his motorcycle. Luther was a member of the Southern Baptist Church and served as Treasurer of the Olivet Baptist Church. Over the years he was a scout leader, and lent a hand where needed. In his retirement, he enjoyed scroll sawing and riding his bike.
 

Luther is survived by his sons, Luther (Ann) Britton of Kansas; Donny (Rose) Britton of La Junta and daughter, Shelly (Marc) Yung of Kansas; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel in 2005, his parents and two sisters. Luther will be missed by family and friends.

A celebration of Luther's life will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Isaias Martinez officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, June 1, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
