Madeline Mary Leyba

March 17, 1921 — July 15, 2013

Madeline Mary Leyba, 92, of La Junta, passed away July 15, 2013 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center. She was born March 17, 1921, in Las Vegas, New Mexico to Ben & Isabel (Licon) Palomino.

Madeline worked at the Kit Carson Hotel Restaurant, Potties Café & Frances Café and also worked at the Western Canning. She enjoyed being with her family and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her son, Herman (Shirley) Leyba of La Junta; daughter, Theresa (Adolph) Esquibel of La Junta; son, Pete Leyba of Pueblo; grandchildren, John, Jr., Emily, Cindy, Nick, Adolph, Jr., Marie, Steve, Tony, Sandra, Michelle, Mike, Jennifer, Eddie, Joann, Sarah, and Nancy; numerous great-grandchildren and several great, great-grandchildren; sister, Caroline Martinez of La Junta. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Emilio Bruno Leyba; an infant daughter; son, Tony Leyba; daughter, Frances “Ponchy” Zamora; sisters, Cundi Hidalgo and Cora Licon; brother, Frank Palomino. 

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Thursday, July 18, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. and Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. both services will be at Our lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Alphonsus Ihuoma officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 17, 2013 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
