Margaret Mata

December 21, 1922 — August 19, 2013

Margaret Mata, 90, of La Junta passed away on August 19, 2013 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center. She was born on December 21, 1922 in Trinchera, Colorado to Fidel & Eleanor (Sandoval) Madrid. She married Consepcion Mata on January 3, 1953 in Raton, New Mexico; he preceded her in death on June 27, 2002.

Margaret enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, spending time with family and playing bingo. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

She is survived by her children, Lee Roy Mata, Floyd (Mary) Whatley of Garden City, KS, Jerry (Janet) Mata of La Junta, Gloria (David) McKinney of La Junta, Victor Mata of La Junta, Lorraine (Jerry) Steadman of Liberal, KS, Christine Mata of Colorado Springs, Larry (Connie) Mata of Lamar, Jesse (Cindy) Whatley of La Junta; sisters, Helen Encinias of Pueblo, Tillie (Rudy) Mascarenas of La Junta, Flora (John) Romero of La Junta; brothers, George (Gloria) Madrid of Denver, Sonny (Flora) Madrid of Pueblo, J.R. (Beatrice) Madrid of La Junta; 21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law, Nancy Mata, brothers, Nino, Paul, Dave, Sr., Pete, and Val Madrid, sisters, Julia Zamora, Mary Salas, Ramona Madrid, Nora Madrid and Jenny Bonilla. 
 
Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Sunday, August 25, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. and Funeral Mass will be Monday, August 26, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., both services will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Alphonsus Ihuoma officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
