Mario A. Hernandez, 83, of La Junta passed away on October 30, 2019 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center. He was born on December 10, 1935 in Mexico City, Mexico to Daniel Rojas & Refugia Lopez (Aguilar) Hernandez.
He was employed by the Atchison Santa Fe & Topeka Railroad for 29 years. He became a naturalized citizen in 1988.
Mario enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and taking trips to Cripple Creek. He also enjoyed watching and attending Colorado Rockies games when possible. His other favorite teams included the Raiders and the Denver Nuggets. He also enjoyed his lottery tickets.
He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish and Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his children, Alfonso (Becky) Monroy, Christine Monroy, Martha (Larry) Glover, Max (Gerri) Monroy, Miguel (Emy) Monroy, and Julio (Rose) Monroy; numerous grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Natividad Hernandez.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. both services at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish in La Junta with Father Henry Wertin officiating. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in La Junta.
