Mary Angela Avalos, 88, passed away March 9, 2012 at her La Junta home. She was born on October 2, 1923 in Cheraw to Manuel & Maria (Madrano) Marquez. She married Joaquin Avalos on January 11, 1947 in La Junta; he preceded her in death on January 31, 1998.
Mary was very active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish and had worked at the church for several years. She worked as a Nurses Aid at the Santa Fe Hospital, The Mennonite Hospital and then for twenty years at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother & sister and will be greatly missed.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Irene A. Marquez of San Diego, CA; son, Joseph Avalos of Beulah, CO; daughters, Yolanda Avalos of Bayfield, CO and Irma (Ted) Freidenberger of Rocky Ford; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and a sister Connie Lopez of Victorville, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel & Maria Marquez, husband, Joaquin Avalos, and three brothers.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Father Alphonsus Ihuoma officiating. Both services at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish. Interment will follow the Mass at Fort Lyon National Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 13, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
