Mary Kathryn Myers

Mary Kathryn Myers, 89, passed away February 8, 2014 at her La Junta home. She was born on September 28, 1924 in Wagon Mound, New Mexico to James Edward & Kathryn (Vanderver) Monroe. She married Dale Myers on May 9, 1945 in Raton, New Mexico; he preceded her in death on June 7, 1993.


Mary graduated from Thatcher high school in 1941. She enjoyed doing volunteer work for the Otero Museum and the La Junta Senior Center. She also was a member of the Mennonite Church. Mary made many center pieces and gifts for Casa Del Sol. Mary loved crocheting, reading, crafts, and making things for her family and spending time with family and enjoyed going to her grandchildren soccer games and activities with friends at Evergreen Gardens.


She is survived by her children, Kathryn (Tom Wallace) Hayson, Floyd (Jeanette) Myers, and Debie Mills; special friends, Mabel & John DeLeon and Mark & Brenda Fisher; and nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great, great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and one sister.


As per Mary’s request cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
