Golden Valley, AZ

Mary L. “Peggy” Staley, 94, of La Junta passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at her daughter’s home in Golden Valley, AZ.

Peggy was born February 27, 1930 to Lee Roy and Mary Ann (Tate) Arnold in Lebanon, MO.

She left Missouri in 1950 to seek employment in Estes Park, CO and stopped in La Junta to visit her sister Frieda, and as they say, the rest is history. She met her husband Mack Staley and they were married May 18, 1951. The couple remained together until his death in 2005. Mack and Peggy raised two children Patrick and Denise.

She was a waitress for many years and retired in 1977 so she could travel, camp and fish.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Denise (Craig) West of Golden Valley, AZ; four grandchildren, Craig Staley of Pueblo, Scott (Amy) Bailey of Owasso, OK, Michael (Melanie) Staley of Pueblo and Chad Bailey of Salina, KS; and three great-grandchildren, Corbin, Kaylyn and Kendall of Owasso, OK. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and son, one brother and three sisters.

Per her wishes, Peggy will be cremated in Arizona and her ashes will be taken back to La Junta at a later date for a private service and burial at Fort Lyon National Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Living Waters Hospice of Golden Valley, AZ for their kindness and care of Peggy.
