Mary Virginia Stewart, lived to be 90 years and one month. Mary was the middle child of five; Ruth, Norman, Mary, Rose, and Terry Michael. Their parents were John Ray & Audrey Pearl Stewart.
Her mother died July 16, 2000. Mary was very close to her sister Ruth and always waited for her to arrive at church. Ruth used a wheelchair in her later years and Mary would take it out to the curb for her then bring her in and help get her situated for church, and for the fellowship meals. Her brother, Terry Michael, was 21 years younger than Mary and she loved him very much! Those three, Ruth, Mary & Michaellived in Rocky Ford and La Junta.
Mary attended Huron College in Lincoln, Nebraska. One of her classmates was Kenneth Cox, who became an Evangelist. Mary, Herself, went back East as a Missionary to Canada. Bill Adair remembers the two of them comparing notes (he had been in Maine about the same time) and they both remembered the snow being so deep they could walk over the top of fences! He also remembered that she became a Seventh-day Adventist after reading her bible and learning about the 7th day Sabbath. Mary loved the Lord and had a great many certificates from all the bible courses she had completed over the years.
Mary was a faithful member of the Arkansas Valley Seventh-day Adventist church. She enjoyed leading the Sabbath School song service every week. She often brought her keyboard from home so she could do special music for church. She loved being a ”Greeter” for church and was a Sabbath School Secretary as well. Mary never wanted anyone to know how she was. . . but she would let it slip out that her birthday was October 21! One year a group from the church got together and gave her a surprise birthday party! She was so delighted! She said, “it was her first birthday party ever!!!”
Mary was fond of desserts. She declared herself in charge of slicing and arranging them for all fellowship meals. Pastor Ted once, and maybe more, brought her a whole box of ice cream bars to take home for herself. She thought she died and gone to heaven!
And now, the very next voice she hears will be that of Jesus inviting her home to Heaven, for all eternity and beyond. Because as much as she loved Jesus; Jesus loves her even more.
A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
Online condolences may be made at www.PeacockFH.com. Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
