Matthew Lee Rusher, 33, passed away unexpectedly on September 22, 2014. He was born on January 29, 1981 in La Junta, Colorado to Ron & Sandy (Hayes) Rusher. He married Amanda G. Day on May 1, 2004 in Plainview, Texas.


Matthew graduated from Crowley County High School class of 2000. He attended the Wayland Baptist University in 2005 where he received his Criminal Justice Degree. He was very devoted to his ministries in the Philippines he had been there twice and was planning a mission trip with Amanda in June. He worked as a correctional officer with the Colorado Department of Corrections. Matthew loved to cook, especially his smoked brisket and he was an eagle scout. When he was asked, “How You Doing?” He would answer, “Better than I Deserve.”


Matthew is survived by his wife, Amanda of the La Junta home; parents, Ron & Sandy Rusher of Sugar City; mother-in-law, Debra (Eddie) Woolsey of Granbury, Texas; sister, Amanda (Dave) Turner of Gillette, Wyoming; brother, Brett (Stephanie) Rusher of Ordway; grandparents, Otis, Jr. & Florence Hayes of Dumas, Texas; nieces & nephews, Callie Rusher, Ranson & McKenna Turner, Ashley Day, MacKensy Day, Kaylea Day, and Emilee Day; step-mother, Debbie Day; brother-in-laws, Jeremy (Cristina) Day and Michael Spivey; sister-in-law, Angela (Clint) Lisle; many aunts and uncles survive. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter & Alice Rusher and nephew, Dyson Rusher.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the River of Life Church Ministries, that was so important to Matt, direct or through the funeral home.


Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.


Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the River of Life Fellowship in Ordway with Pastor Jeb Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Ordway Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, September 25, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
