Melquides Estrada

Melquides "Mel" Estrada, 67, passed away on February 28, 2015 in La Junta. He was born on April 5, 1947 to Lucille Garcia and Patrick Estrada.
 
Mel served in the United States Army in 1964. He worked as a truck driver until 1990 when he retired and began his hobby in Real Estate. Mel loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed a hot cup of coffee while watching the Rodeo or an episode of The Sopranos. Mel had a unique sense of humor, he told great stories, and offered his help to others. He also enjoyed singing, and playing his guitar & violin.
 
Mel is survived by his wife of 42 years, Maria Estrada; Mother, Lucille Tapia of La Junta; Daughters, Dora (Larry) Lopez of La Junta, Lorraine (Shannon) Trujillo of La Junta, and Crystal (Jeremy Romero) Estrada of Denver; Son, Pete Estrada of La Junta; Brothers, Donald Martinez of Rocky Ford, Patrick Estrada of Ft. Morgan; Sisters, Maria Tapia of CO Springs, Susan Tapia of Rocky Ford, Carol Tapia of La Junta, Anne (Miguel) Florez of Ft. Morgan, and Sandra Estrada of Pueblo; Sister In-Law, Monica (Daniel) Mendoza of Denver; Step Father In-Law, Refugio Lopez; Grandchildren, Chasity Archuleta, Krysten Lopez, , Karlos Vasquez II, Brennon Trujillo, Kristian Ross, Brendon Trujillo, Jeremy Romero II, Kailee Trujillo, Alexa Romero, and Zebedee Estrada; Great Grandson, Kristopher Trujillo; Godson, Luis Mendoza; Numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Father, Patrick Estrada; Son, Karlos Vasquez, Mother In-Law, Maria Vigil; Brother In-Law, Arnold Vigil; Step Father, Jesse Tapia. 



 


Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Friday, March 6, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. both services at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Matthew Wertin officiating.  Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors by the Rocky Ford Rifle Team, American Legion Post #8. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 5 :00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
