Mercedes Cruz Cardenas, 49, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 in Nuebo Ideal, Durango, Mexico. She was born on May 3, 1960 to Jose Andres & Maria Guadalupe (Castro) Salazar in La Junta. She married Cecilio Cardenas on March 5, 1980 in La Junta.
Mercedes is survived by her husband, Cecilio of the family home; children Bernardino Miguel Cardenas of Denver; Jose Fernando (Juanita) Cardenas of Pueblo; Cecilia Sofia Cardenas of La Junta; mother, Maria Guadalupe Salazar of La Junta; sibling, Michael Jose (Debbie) Salazar of Hayward, CA; Fernando (Deborah) Salazar of La Junta; Angelina Andrea Salazar of La Junta; Bertha (Zeferino) Cadenas of Las Animas; Felipe Jesus (Amy) Salazar of La Junta; Lisa Orasco of La Junta; David (Andrea) Vigil of Colorado Springs; Andres (Kristy) Salazar of Pueblo; Francisco Poncho (Rose Marie) Salazar of Pueblo; Mario Apodaca of Pueblo; grandchildren, Jacob Ginther, Ramone Cardenas, Eniah Cardenas; numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father Jose Andres Salazar; siblings, Frederick & Rachel; nephew Joseph Salazar Gutierrez.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Tuesday, March 2nd, at 9:30 a.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m., both services at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick’s Catholic Parish in La Junta with Father Alphonsus Ihuoma officiating. Visitation will be Monday, March 1st from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial fund has been set up in Mercy’s name at Colorado East Bank & Trust.
