Orpha Lee Freeland

Orpha Lee Freeland, 95, of La Junta, passed away on April 1, 2016 at the Crowley County Nursing Center. She was born on March 23, 1921 on her grandmother’s farm north of Boise City, Oklahoma to Charles C. & Ida M. (Means) Purcell.
 
She married George Barden on December 23, 1939 in Alice Texas. To this union were born three children, Norman Barden, Barbara (Barden) Weller and Muriel Barden. After living in Texas and Oklahoma they settled in Cheraw, then La Junta. Where Lee worked at the pickle plant then as a cook at the Hospital.
 
After George’s death, she married Carl Freeland on May 20, 1983 in La Junta, where they continued to live. They spent their winter months in Port Aransas, TX.
 
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Jerry) Weller, granddaughter, Rhia (Don) Young; grandsons, Rodger (Tawnya) Barden, Steven Weller, Andrew (Trudy) Weller; great-grandchildren, Malorie Young, Murphy Young, Ashley Weller and Jacob Weller; great, great-granddaughter, Iris Young; brothers, Dale (Dorothy) Purcell and Ken (Ruth) Purcell and numerous nieces and nephews and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ida Noble and step-father, Henry Noble; father, Charles Purcell; husbands, George W. Barden and Carl L. Freeland; children, Norman and Muriel Barden.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel with Pastor Gordon Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be prior to service from 9:00 a.m. until service time.
