Rachel Clara Walker

Rachel Clara Walker, 90, of Fowler passed away on August 3, 2018 at the Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo. She was born on November 26, 1927 to Isom Lee & Faye (Fair) Stroud in Fowler. She married Charles Wayne Walker on June 16, 1947 at the First Baptist Church. They just celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary.

After leaving the Dotson Country west of Fowler, her family moved to a ranch in Karval. She rode four miles on the back of a saddle horse behind Lee, her brother, to go to first grade at Car Crossing School. During the hard times of the depression, her family moved back to Fowler to a farm east of town. Rachel attended Elder in the No. 6 School District. She was the last student of her generation still living in the No. 6 community. After graduating from the eighth grade, she attended Fowler High School where she was the Valedictorian and graduated with the Class of 1945, where she sang the solo for the occasion.

She went to Midwest Business College in Pueblo where she obtained a business education and returned to Fowler to work at the First National Bank of Fowler. They moved to a farm east of Fowler and have lived there since then. After becoming a mother, Rachel stayed home where she custom dressed chickens for ladies in town, raised big gardens, selling produce and eggs to Steins in Pueblo. She also made most of the dresses that her daughters wore, many out of flour sacks. Her hobby was embroidering and crocheting centerpieces out of thread continuing to do this until her death. She also loved to read. Rachel was a 4-H leader for fourteen years. She tried a new adventure after her children were raised. Rachel starting selling Avon and had sold it for 43 years retiring only a month ago.

Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to her. For their birthdays, Rachel would bake them an Angel Food Cake from scratch. She baked her last Angel Food Cake in March for her sweetheart, Wayne.

Rachel was a member of the First Baptist Church having been a Christian since she was ten years old. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and sang solos. Rachel loved life and lived it to the fullest.

Rachel is survived by her husband, Charles Wayne Walker of the Fowler home; children, Patricia Perue of Fowler; Nancy (Don) Bressan of Walsenberg and Eddie Walker of Pueblo; grandchildren, Tracy (Chris) Evans of Elizabeth, CO; Kim Bressan of San Diego, CA; Brenda Bressan of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam; Brian (Meredith) Bressan of Bath, Maine; Abbie (Doug) Ertz of Elizabeth, CO; Terrie (Jake) Leonard of Arlington, CO; great-grandchildren, Levi Bressan, Conner & Mason Evans, Silas Bressan, Justin Jasmin, Hannah Ertz, Landon & Denny Leonard; sister-in-law's, Mary Beth McCuistion and Letha Mae Goff and one niece also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Lee Stroud; son-in-law, Larry Perue; nephew, Terry Stroud.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Fowler with Pastor Phil Gibson officiating.
