Robert "Bob" Eugene Hinkhouse

Robert “Bob” Eugene Hinkhouse, 73, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at his La Junta home surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born on December 23 1944 in Burlington, CO to Rex and Leile Hinkhouse.

Bob graduated from Burlington High School in 1963, Otero Junior College in 1966, and
Southern Colorado State College in 1968 with a B.S. in Biology. He met Roxa Ann Gasser of La Junta while at OJC, and they married in June of 1965. Bob and Roxa Ann shared 37 years of marriage and were blessed with three children Renee, Brock, Brett, and nine wonderful grandchildren. After the passing of Roxa Ann in 2002 he met and married Juanita Vasquez of La Junta in 2004. The two shared 13 years of marriage devoted to one another enjoying their children and grandchildren. Bob was comforted by Juanita's outpouring love and devotion for him especially in his times of poor health.

He began his 48 year teaching and coaching career in 1969 working in Rocky Ford, Crowley County, and La Junta public schools. He not only was a great teacher and coach to thousands of students and athletes but also a great mentor as many have shared. Bob was very successful on the track as well, coaching multiple state champions and winning two 3A state track titles.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita of La Junta; daughter, Renee (Jeremy) Hunter of
Rocky Ford; sons, Brock (Kara) Hinkhouse of La Junta and Brett (Annie) Hinkhouse of LaValle, Wisconsin; stepchildren, Conrad (Lorraine) Lopez of Los Angeles and Annette (Dennis) Allen of Long Beach, California; siblings, Rosalie (Jim) Adolf of Greeley; Richard (Susan) Hinkhouse of Burlington and Linda (Dale) Slinger of Burlington; grandkids, Tyler and Olivia Lewis, Jade and Hawk Hunter, Roxy and Jett Hinkhouse, and Wynn, Charlee, and Josie Hinkhouse. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Leile Hinkhouse and his first wife, Roxa Ann.

A memorial services will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., at the La Junta High School Gymnasium with Pastor John Dell of the First Christian Church officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in La Junta.
